Donkey Kong Country Returns First ImpressionsBy Locke on December 19th, 2010
This game is an awesome return to form. One of the things I’ve always liked about the series is the fact that it challenged gamers without being overly frustrating or grossly difficult for the sake of difficulty. This is classic NES challenging; where your jumps and attacks must be perfectly in sync, and when it goes right, it feels oh so good. The graphics are vibrant and colorful; there are really great stages that are very easy on the eyes. Every enemy and object just has its own wonderful personality. In one stage the foreground is very dark, with only the reds of DK’s tie and Diddy’s hat to give the character’s their distinct attributes. The backgrounds are alive, and change as you progress through each stage making everything a vibrant romp through dense jungle and locales. I’ll write more as I make progress, but this is definitely recommended for now. -Locke out |
Co-op mode can be extremely frustrating when your friend is a little less skilled at platformers. He falls off constantly costing me more lives than it should. I’ve been tempted to throw real life barrels at him. Other than that the game has a great nostalgic feel similar to what I got from Super Mario Bros Wii. I must admit I do miss the Kremlings and K. Rool.
Had a similar problem playing with a sibling. Luckily if things get rough, you can always grab them as DK and put them on your back, so you can platform for two! It made some of the later stages easier.
That worked until my friend realized he could jump back off. lol
