Heya guys. I’m hoping you’re enjoying the new 3 comic lineup, it’s definitely something that Ence was kicking around and prepared for. If you haven’t already be sure to email him and praise his work. I’ve wanted to update sooner, but I just couldn’t bring myself to write more. Lately all I’ve been doing is writing; for school, and some of my own work, along with helping Ence with dialogue. The one project consuming much of my time lately has been a 4E campaign of Dungeons and Dragons set in my own world. The key difference in this world is that there aren’t any magic classes, because everyone has the potential to use magic in a creative way that provides utility. Tikara has been playing a bit of it, and most of my players have been impressed with the amount of role playing capability this campaign setting has given them. I’m currently nearing the end of the first arc of it, and hopefully should be starting a second one. I’ve asked this before, but wanted to ask again, would anyone of the fans be interested in a play by post campaign anytime soon? Hope everyone is having a good week, Locke |
I think it’s a pretty awesome campaign. You created a very rich and vibrant world for us to run around in =D
Agreed. Its different enough from stereotypical D&D that I think people who wouldn’t normally find the game interesting might enjoy it, while at the same time using the same rule set as traditional Dungeons and Dragons.
I have a hard time getting my DnD fix so a I would probably be in a play by post deal 😀
I always thought it was really interesting how the wizard in Conan the Destroyer was more of an “open this door/find an entrance/where is so-and-so” kind of deal. It sounds like that’s kinda what you have here, except everyone can do that stuff. Is that about right?
Regardless, sounds awesome.
It’s something more like Golden Sun, where your abilities can be used to puzzle solve or to fight enemies. My most prominent player in terms of using this mechanic used her earth magic to create a wall between her party and their current boss-type enemy to buy them time while they fought off lesser monsters. They then pushed this wall onto the enemy by ramming into it with all their weight, crushing the enemy under the stone for a round as a result. It gets players to 1) Roleplay a little more, and 2) Creatively engage the enemy in combat. It’s pretty cool.
Yeah, what I really meant was that magic is being used more as a utility than as a straight-up weapon which is what most RPGs seem to be about lately.
I find a major problem with play by post is that it goes really slow. Like, slower than a video game, but DnD is faster, and more social. DnD should be done with other people, and doing it through a computer makes it less of a personal experience, and you’re less invested in the characters, I think. I did a play-by-post and it took so damn long just to travel.
In any case, the power system sounds interesting. I’m running a campaign with extra powers, but i still have magic users – the source of their magic comes from their powers. Yes a wizard still has to study and harness it, but the SOURCE of that magic comes from within them. Or Dragon’s Blood. Or the Cosmos.
Aren’t sorcerers kinda like that? They use magic just by feelin’ it! 😛
