LoL Discussion: JunglingBy Locke on April 4th, 2011
One of the things I’ve picked up again for ranked matches is jungling with Warwick. I had grown tired of it after a while, there were some griefing issues I used to have when I played WW on normal matches. Since then, most people, tryhards or otherwise, enjoy having a solo lane. Watching the Stonewall Jungle videos on Youtube has inspired me to try and be more creative with my own jungling paths, as well as my options with items and jungling strategies. One issue I find discouraging is that far too many people in lower elos don’t take smite. This comes from the notion that they believe that taking Smite informs the enemy that you aren’t competent enough in your ability to jungle without it. I love it when enemy jungle champs don’t take it because it means I can usually rob them of their buff, then proceed to murder them with it. One of the changes in a future patch is a tinkering with Wriggles Lantern to change the damage it does to Magic Damage. What this does is prevent a person from getting those huge boosts of HP heals off of the item’s lifesteal from those bursts of damage to minions. It will also be made so that this effect cannot be used for Spell Vamp. As a person who always purchases Wriggle’s Lantern on Ezreal and other Junglers, I can see how this is used and abused; fights against quick, deadly DPS champions are often annoying because of the fact that they can slip away, heal themselves quickly by farming buffs and coming back into the lane. What do you guys think of said changes? Any tips you want to share as a jungler? Any good Jungler stories you got to tell? -Locke out |
I personally don’t think this will change my jungle style at all besides the lvl 8-9 solo of dragon one i get the lantern.
As for good jungle stories, i play trundle in the jungle (all ways chuckles me that it rhymes) i had a odd story about a enemy poppy saving my life and getting me a kill it was around level 7.
I have in the river near dragon when i got hit by a lux hold (was chasing down a low life rammus about 400 hp) saw both lux and morgana come lux held me and morgana popped her ultimate, when morgana fired her skill shot (i was about 500 life)
lux charged her ultimate when poppy for no reason charged me up the hill dodging both, i found rammus up there killing blue buff so i popped my ultimate bite him once and survived with a kill thanks to leaching rammus’s tank stat for a few seconds.
I don’t jungle alot, but I can tell you that at higher levels, if you take smite, sometimes people will try to counter-jungle you. Getting your teammates to act like wards and leash the blue buff will help out alot.
Or simply by not starting at blue buff, you can throw the enemy off their game. Golems are usually a good choice, as they’re near towers and easy to take down.
Smite is a Catch-22. You shouldn’t jungle without it, but if you do, it certainly alerts the other team to your intentions, and that’s one summoner spell you could’ve taken on mobility or offensive/defensive spells like Ignite, Exhaust, Ghost, or Flash.
One time I shut down the Rammus jungler on their team as eve. Just stealthed up, went behind him into the bushes, and when he was almost about to kill it, stunned him, killed him, and left. (I didn’t take golem to make an incentive to come back)
I did this about 3 times before he realized it wasn’t going to work, and he stopped trying.
Late game, he was level 7 while we were level 13. It was amazing.
On WW jungle I start at golems because it’s without question the easiest way to avoid ganks, unless the other team is full of complete tryhards that have to get FB on the jungler no matter what. (Had it happen to Udyr once, all 5 came to kill him.) Althought it slightly pushes respawn time of golem back by ~2 minutes, it heavily screws up their counterjungle.
personally whenever I use WW I always jungle, Also I find starting with Lizard is a great way to avoid getting ganked since almost every jungler starts blue(however I always buy an HP and a mana pot to survive but it’s worth not getting ganked). (I never counter jungle shaco, cause it might backfire since they always get the jacks and 3-4 hitting you at lvl 1 hurts) but I usually do that and have no trouble, however lizard is harder but I find using ignite with it makes jungling early easier, as well as later putting that DoT on an enemy when they run away. and then I usually always gank when I hit lvl 6 which is usually at the same time the solo laner hits lvl 6 and makes ganking fun since it’ll be 2 lvl 6s fighting 2 lvl 4s, and then I just jungle like crazy and pop out if someone needs help or my ult is up. and I think every WW game I’ve been in has ended with me being something like 12/4/3, even if we lose. Also I find killing lizard then golem then other neutral minions is the easiest way to do it and level fast, sure it’s harder but you get what you need faster
jungle ryze ftw, back when smite was magic damage
