Locke has been sucked into a weekly ritual known as “Friday Night Magic” and he tells me the things he overhears. “Magic is about ‘man, $@%& (insert card here)'”
Or something like that. I guess some cards make you mad? Some cards you just don’t want to see your opponent play? And it’s a different hated card everytime?
In other news, a wild VOLUME 2 has appeared! Check it out! It’s got over 100 pages of awesome! Every comic from 2009 is included, along with a ton of bonus material you won’t find online, including a short story by Locke, about Locke! Have you ever wondered what happened to Locke after this comic’s events? If you buy Massive Pwnage Volume 2, your questions will be answered.
There will always be rage about a “certain” card. Its the best & worst of Magic:)
but Surgical Extraction? Seriously? That card is simply bad
Turn 1, Duress, Pay 2 life, surgical extraction. I almost always get a plainswalker or a win condition card.
and you just wasted 2 life and a card in your hand for a card they couldn’t play for 4-5 turns anyway
Necroing an old conversation. I paid 2 life, 1 card to look at their entire deck. I can know exactly what they’re playing and plan my entire game accordingly. All on turn one. The moar you know.
I felt that way too. So nearly every time I played Magic it made me angry. Shortly after I realized that the object of the game was to break the game faster than your opponent. It makes it much more enjoyable.

The backs of the cards looked like Duel Monster cards in Yu-Gi-Oh! ._.
The backs of yugioh cards look like magic cards
Also, panel 2 locke looks like kal encestrom with dark hair
Why does Locke look like a pudgy child in the first panel?
I love teenage Locke. So great!
Is his skin over his glasses in the 3rd panel? Are they part of his face! 🙂
Yes, card $@%& is always a problem. On the other hand, killing it with Memoricide is so incredibly satisfying… 🙂
Memoricide is worse than surgical extraction. You don’t have to have the target in a graveyard to do it. The only down side is it costs 4 mana instead of one, but at least you prevent them from getting it out ever, like with Progenitus, where it is almost impossible to get rid of. Either one of these cards would ruin a Relentless Rats deck, though.
The problem with memoricide is that you have to name a card. Unless you know the opponents deck you could get nothing. The great thing about surgical extraction is that you’ll only have to suffer the effects of the card once, UNLESS you play blue, in which case you can Mana Leak it and surgical extraction it afterward, completely screwing them. In my experience memoricide is a late game or sideboard card. It’s a four-mana mainphase drop, a huge disadvantage when you compare it to the potentiality of a one-mana two life instant that does the same thing. Memoricide is a nice card, but I’m looking at this from a competitive standpoint, you would be able to utilize memoricide at it’s full potential game two, where you’ve been defeated by your opponent’s win condition already. However, waiting around to see what the hell they play, especially in a meta where they’ll play their win condition turn 3/4 (Splintertwin, Caw-blade, RDW), you can’t afford that kind of advantage. Surgical Extraction will grant you an immediate advantage at the cost of 2 life pretty early, which is peanuts compared to what else you can toss out. I often play surgical extraction myself combined with sadistic sacraments, allowing me to ruin a person’s win condition fairly quickly. If you look up the pricings for both cards, Surgical Extraction can go from 8 bucks to 10 bucks because you can run it in any deck, (I run it in my Illusions deck), Memoricide barely goes for 3 dollars at most. I think it’s because it’s color dependant, a sorcery, and a bit of a high cost for a cast that can flop on it’s face. Just my humble opinion.
