Rhydon was the first Pokémon ever programmed into the first games, and is one of the – if not THE – first Pokémon ever conceived.

So at one point, Pokemon was a Rhino trainer simulator.
There were originally going to be about 170 something Pokemon in Red and Green, but memory limitations had to cut the number down to 150. The other 20 something Pokemon were pushed into Gold and Silver. I’m just curious as to why they’ve added 3 types since the first generation…
I always figured that Pokemon started with a couple of guys playing one of those extreme variants of rock/paper/scissors. “My scissors beat your rock!” “Nuh uh, that’s not rock, it fire! It melts your scissors!”
And then they decided to turn them into character classes.
