Battle TrainingBy Locke on November 3rd, 2010
I’d assume many players of community that migrated from DotA might be relieved by this kind of supportive feature for new players. There is nothing more irritating that playing with someone who either has no concept of the game’s fundamental aspects; laning, jungling, last-hits, etc. This feature may enlighten those of the players who have more than a few games in but don’t really understand the reason why they are being outdone on the battlefield. Before, new players would be hurled into the Fields of Justice, expecting to know their Champions, skills, and builds, and instantly get at least a little resentment when they ask, “Okay, what’s good on this Character?” I remember asking that very question myself. Now I can peruse new champion descriptions and instantly think of potential builds for this champion. I find myself asking the question, “What’s next for LoL?” I’ll tell you what I’d like to see. If you can assign quests, maybe you can set up dungeon crawls, where LoL champions are traversing the more dangerous environs of Runeterra. The shop could only be accessed during checkpoints of the crawl, making your decisions in build much more crucial. What do you guys think of the new Tutorial? Would you like to see an enforcement of these kind of tutorial advances, or would you like some different content? What say you? -Locke |
The new tutorial is really awesome. Every player should give it a try. It actually teaches you a lot of the essential basics that you wouldn’t learn otherwise. I especially like when you are told about bushes. It shows a Garen spinning out of the bushes into an unsuspecting Ashe. Also, is it just me or did they make the bots smarter? Shen bot actually ulted me when I was low on health. I thought that was cool.
does sonabot actually use her abilitys now? i havnt been able to try yet?
Here’s what Volibar, a Riot dev who worked on the new tutorial, had to say:
“The bots are smarter in some ways, dumber in others. They’re custom made for BT based on user testing :)”
Cool!!
Computer teachers are bull@#$%, I was thinking of a system where players who want to learn and want to be good at the game can be matched with 1 or maybe 2 volunteering good player(s) in a game against the same kind of team to create a fast learning environment. When i first started playing i was just horrid and only got instruction from the pure luck of an experienced player who laned with me and wanted to help me instead of just calling me a noob and/or ragequitting.
The only problem with that is it lacks any unified direction. A player who volunteers may not be that great at all, teaching them unimportant things for the beginning summoner, namely Tiers, Summoner Combos, and Builds. The beginning summoner needs to be taught the basics of the game without having it pummeled into their head by constant death. I tried the tutorial and was impressed, I was playing Garen, a champ I know in and out, and laughed as it lectured me on tower diving. The rules have to be established before they are broken by your skill and spiral power. Training with someone else is effective if they have patience and lots of time, something that wouldn’t always be possible among strangers; especially in a MOBA game.
I hadn’t tried the tutorial sytem when i made that comment, it was actually based on what you said about it…i did play it a few minutes ago and its kind of incomplete i guess, kind of like going to school to learn how to be an engineer, learning the basics only and then being expected to do the job correctly. i mean doing something like an apprenticeship where 30s can (for extra IP gain) be assigned a player or two to play games with whenever they make time to can be beneficial to both sides. I mean after they learn the basics in the tutorial of course, and i guess if the 30 is a poor teacher the new player can remove them and try to find another person…also im thinking it could help people make friends on the game
Yeah.. a similar thing happened to me, while playing Ryze I was pummeling away at the tower and trying to get as many hits in as I possibly can but, the minion warning thing kept popping up which was sort of annoying. It can be quite annoying/amusing for experienced players and helpful for new ones.
i find the est way to train someone is to play against them 1vs1, so they can get the hang of it, and you can kill them if they make screwups that would cost them their life normally. Afterwards you explai what they did wrong and what they should have done.
Yeah, that probably is one of the best ways. I learned everything I know about LoL from Locke 😛
now that i have ben able to do the battle training the only annoying things are the lowhealth Press recall notice, and the turret diving Theres No Minions Nearby popup that screws up your dive
oh and sivirbot is op in that mode, pushing a tower and killing faster than me as ryze 0.o
that tutorial is kind of funny.
its easy to understand and just the easiest heroes can be choosen.
ryze, garen and ashe are in my oppinion the easiest heros to play 🙂
btw: nice comics you got here ^^
This is quite handy, was thinking of geting into this game but was told that its too difficult for new players. We i guess il go give it a try now
